Reading in the Dark
For our first community reading event Frome Library very kindly let us play after dark in the library. Around 120 children and adults came armed with torches to help us investigate the strange goings on, not least being an infestation of goblins. Even the library staff looked a bit strange.
Our quest was inspired by Neil Gayman’s poem ‘Instructions’ (thank you to Dave Plimmer for reading it out loud). We came across this through the fantastic Reader Organisation, from their anthology A Little Aloud, (which we highly recommend for home or school). Our library trail was curated by Lucia Harley and Sasha Laskey, and included magical book clues created by Lucia and hidden within books throughout the library.
Big thanks to the Book Barn http://www.bookbarninternational.co.uk/ BS39 6EX who loaned us 500 books to create our bed of books, and to Fran Price for reading her Goblins in the Wallpaper tale.
We’ll be developing our book quest ideas later in the year with local schools.
