A beautiful sunny day  (haven’t seen one of those for a long time) and we travel to Wiltshire Heritage Museum to deliver a family workshop day alongside our Measuring the Land exhibition. Gavin Maxwell’s photographs look fantastic in the gallery, with incredible detail and atmosphere despite the low light they were taken in. As we describe the scale of the work done in the field by the guys from Mendip YMCA (and Fin from Frome College!) to visitors, we realise just how big that circle was.

Today we had a great time with all ages, creating our own versions of the Bush Barrow lozenge, a fascinating artifact which uses pattern and geometry as a talisman, maybe, or just Bronze Age bling? The Bush Barrow burial (around 3,000 years ago), and excavation is an extraordinary human story which you can learn about in the collection.

Our Measuring the Land photos and activities have now returned to Frome, but if we get another sunny day, go along and visit the museum in Devizes to see what has been hidden, and maybe still is, under that extraordinary Wessex landscape. And get out and walk in it too.
