Shapeshifting and Storywalking has been a fun project to curate for Frome Festival 2015.

The installation celebrated and shared wider project work taking literacy outdoors, by bringing it back into gallery spaces with Rook Lane Arts but in an untraditional and engaging way.

There were two parts to the exhibition :

Storywalking was the work of Chris Jelley (Storywalks) and Claire Vowell in partnership with Frome Schools. This was to showcase geolocated stories written by children. I took copies of the children’s drawings and paintings and created ‘box art’ scenes. I then took fragments from the different stories and created a small narrative on the wall.

Shapeshifting was a showcase for storytelling and Mr Rook’s Speakeasy, focusing on the work of Lisa Kenwright. This was in the large space at Rook Lane Chapel,Frome.

As curator, all I had were some stories, soundbites and felt masks (by artist Gladys Paulus). My job was to make it a visually exciting space to visit, as well as allowing access to audio, which was managed through large QR codes.
