“Teenagers are philosophers” Matt Haig
We’ve been a bit quiet at Break 3 recently but it’s feverish behind the scenes with dreams and bids, business plans, constructions, tetra-pack tiling, spoons and codes, walking and words. First pics of our Words in the Woods reading den soon, and hopefully good news on ambitious creative literacy projects for the Autumn.
Meanwhile wise words from Charlie Higson and Matt Haig about teenagers and fiction at 2014 Hay Festival…
“The powers that be would like us to believe that children just rely on some sort of regressive stone-age text speak. Language is a tool, not a set of rules. Modern children are incredibly bright and eloquent, they love books and are switched on. I go to a lot of festivals and the children ask smarter questions than the adults. Children need good literature to learn about nuance. It’s more important now than ever.”
