Home of our Delight digital trail

8th April 2017

“Fantastic trail: it adds a whole new dimension to a visit to Mells. Saw many places I hadn’t been to before – the slightly longer walk is well worthwhile, with pretty, off-the-beaten-track lanes. Very poignant to read the history behind all these places. Thank you.” Trail walker September 2016

It is always lovely to explore the village of Mells in Spring time. The Home of our Delight village trail provides a new walk to enable both locals and visitors to explore the village and gain a deeper perspective on a 100 years ago and the time of the First World War. Village stories have been uncovered with the help of local volunteers and students from Mells School and Frome College, and give a sense of how the war was experienced at home in Somerset. A special thank you to Charlie Coombes for these lovely photos of the first trail walkers in September 2016.

There are two ways to find your way:

Get a trail leaflet from the Mells Shop and Cafe (and don’t forget to return for refreshment at the end of your walk) and follow the circular walk around the village. Shorter and longer walks available. Shorter walk is buggy and wheel chair accessible.

Thank you to artist and Home of our Delight volunteer Sarah Godsill for the beautiful illustrations. You can see more of her work here

Download the digital trail to your smartphone or iPad, and more hidden stories and images will pop up magically as you walk. Simply open up this page on the device you are taking with you (smart phone or iPad) and step out on the trail. New boxes and stories will open up as you follow the instructions and the trail.

Trail created by the very clever Storywalks team.
