Benjamin Baker was a bold and creative engineer who built some of the most iconic structures in the world including the Forth Bridge, the Aswan Dam and the Hudson River Tunnel.
He combined deep scientific understanding with great practical skills and as a gifted public speaker he possessed the rare ability to illustrate engineering principles in a way that even a lay audience could understand. In his lifetime Baker was fêted but now although his structures are well-known little is remembered about this brilliant man.

We are delighted to announce that the Bridging the World exhibition is now available to hire. The 40 images, selected and printed from glass negatives and original prints held by the National Archives of Scotland and Getty Images give a vivid, contemporary glimpse of the superhuman effort and vision responsible for three iconic examples of late Victorian engineering, all designed by the relatively un-known engineering genius, Benjamin Baker.
